About Werdwot
Werdwot is a handmade Ethiopian jewelry brand celebrating timeless beauty, heritage, and craftsmanship through natural materials and artistic expression. Each piece is thoughtfully shaped and painted by hand, inspired by Ya Kake Werdwot, a revolutionary Ethiopian woman from the Gurage region who fought for women’s rights in 1855 GC and became a symbol of feminine strength, grace, and creative fire.
Our goal is to create timeless statement earrings that are bold and rooted in Ethiopian culture, crafted from locally sourced materials with care and intention.
We work primarily with calabash, transformed through hand-carving and spontaneous hand painting that make every pair one of a kind. Each piece is paired with gold-plated studs, merging organic textures with refined finishes , a balance of earth and elegance.
As we grow, we aim to explore other local materials and traditional techniques, continuing to highlight Ethiopia’s artistry through contemporary, meaningful design.
Our creations are not just accessories but stories of craft, culture, and the quiet power of handmade feminine beauty.
Our current collection is called እ ን ዝ ር ት (Spindle) which celebrates the fluid power of femininity , ever-evolving, centered, and full of quiet strength. Inspired by the Ethiopian spindle’s graceful rotation. Each earring captures the dynamic rhythm of a woman’s life , her balance between softness and determination, motion and stillness.
